Este artículo analiza el tratamiento de la pobreza en el siglo XIII, prestando especial atención a la disputa que siguió a la muerte de San Francisco entre los adherentes a una observancia estricta de la regla y aquellos que llamaban a una observancia laxa: los Espirituales o Zelanti y los Observantes.
