description This paper presents a study about the musical teaching-learning process of candomblé, a modality of Afro-Brazilian religion. In this context, music plays a communicative role, participates in all rituals, and is closely related to extramusical elements, such as the dance and mythology of the orixas, the African deities. Aiming to extrapolate everyday contents, the objective was to research the musical activities of a specific culture to foster a reflection on contemporary educational practices. So, before advancing into the religious universe of candomblé, it was considered opportune to revise the concepts of culture and education to aid in the understanding of this complex musical and cultural system. Thus, with the experience of intense field work, a bibliographical review was carried out with theoretical support by authors from the areas of education (Brandão, 2007; Machado, 2007), of musical education (Arroyo, 2000; Kleber, 2006), of ethnomusicology (Blacking, 2007, Almeida and Pucci, 2011), as well as specific works on culture (Tylor, 1871; Santos, 2006), and about the music of candomblé (Prandi, 2005; Cardoso, 2006; Fonseca, 2002), just to name a few. Therefore, through a global vision of the cultural environment of candomblé, we aim to bring contributions to contextualized musical education.

El presente artículo presenta un estudio sobre el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje musical del candomblé, una modalidad de religión afro-brasileña. En este contexto, la música ejerce función comunicativa, participa de todos los rituales, así como está íntimamente relacionada con elementos extramusicales, como la danza y la mitología de los orixás, las divinidades africanas. Con el fin de extrapolar los contenidos cotidianos, el objetivo fue investigar las actividades musicales de una cultura específica para fomentar una reflexión sobre las prácticas educativas contemporáneas. Antes de avanzar en el universo religioso del candomblé, fue considerado oportuno, revisar los conceptos de cultura y educación para ayudar a la comprensión de ese complejo sistema musical y cultural. Por lo tanto, contando con la experiencia de un intenso trabajo de campo, se realizó una revisión bibliográfica teniendo como soporte teórico autores de las áreas de la educación (Brandão, 2007; Machado, 2007); de la educación musical (Arroyo, 2000; Kleber, 2006;); de la etnomusicología (Blacking, 2007; Almeida y Pucci, 2011); así como obras específicas sobre cultura (Tylor, 1871; Santos, 2006) y sobre la música del candomblé (Prandi, 2005; Cardoso, 2006; Fonseca, 2002); sólo para citar algunos. Por lo tanto, mediante una visión global del ambiente cultural del candomblé, anhelamos hacer contribuciones a una educación musical contextualizada. O presente artigo apresenta um estudo sobre o processo de ensino-aprendizagem musical do candomblé, uma modalidade de religião afro-brasileira. Nesse contexto, a música exerce função comunicativa, participa de todos os rituais, bem como está intimamente relacionada com elementos extramusicais, como a dança e a mitologia dos orixás, as divindades africanas. Visando extrapolar os conteúdos cotidianos, o objetivo foi pesquisar as atividades musicais de uma cultura específica para fomentar uma reflexão sobre as práticas educacionais contemporâneas. Então, antes de avançar no universo religioso do candomblé, foi considerado oportuno, revisar os conceitos de cultura e educação para auxiliar na compreensão desse complexo sistema musical e cultural.
