The literature on the subject is very extensive and varied. Hence, it is problematic, at a first glance, to discern what the most relevant texts for its study are. In this article I analyze the literature on the subject and propose a line of approach both thematically and bibliographically. First I consider the need to acquire an idea of the history of the genre; then I provide tools to facilitate selective hearing and musical analysis of such a vast corpus, and to smooth the process of understanding the lyrics and their importance. I also include some comments about the dance, which is one of the great attractions of the genre worldwide. To develop this brief access guide I propose, with a critical view, reading a selection of works dealing with music, lyrics and dance. I just mention those books and articles that contribute to the understanding of the topic from a musical point of view; those which can illuminate our musicological approach shedding light on the literary aspects; and some others that provide us with insights into the relationship between dance and music.

El tango es un género complejo, con más de un siglo de historia, que acumula alrededor de veinticinco mil registros fonográficos desde aproximadamente 1905. La bibliografía sobre el tema es muy extensa y variada, por lo que resulta problemático, en una primera aproximación, discernir cuáles son los textos relevantes para su estudio. En este artículo analizo la literatura existente y propongo una forma de acceso tanto temática como bibliográfica. Considero en primer lugar la necesidad de adquirir una idea de la historia del género, luego proporciono herramientas para facilitar la audición selectiva y el análisis musical de un corpus extenso y para comprender el funcionamiento e importancia de las letras. Incluyo, además, algunos comentarios sobre el baile, que es uno de los grandes atractivos del género en todo el mundo. Para desarrollar esta breve guía de acceso propongo, con una visión crítica, la lectura de una selección de trabajos que estudian música, letra y baile. Entre la gran cantidad de ediciones, sólo menciono aquellas que aportan a la comprensión del tema desde la música, las que pueden iluminar nuestro análisis musicológico echando luz sobre los aspectos literarios, y algunos trabajos que nos proveen elementos para comprender la interrelación baile-música. O tango é um gênero complexo, com mais de um século de história, que se acumula em cerca de vinte e cinco mil gravações fonográficas, desde cerca de 1905. A literatura sobre o assunto é muito extensa e variada e por isso é problemático, numa primeira abordagem, distinguir quais os textos relevantes para o seu estudo. Neste artigo vou analisar a literatura existente e propor uma linha de abordagem tanto temática como bibliográfica. Vou considerar, em primeiro lugar, a necessidade de adquirir uma ideia da história do gênero para depois fornecer ferramentas para facilitar a audição seletiva e análise musical de um vasto corpus imprescindível para compreender o funcionamento e importância das letras. Incluo, também, alguns comentários sobre a dança, que é uma das grandes atrações do gênero em todo o mundo. Para desenvolver este breve guia de acesso proponho, a partir de uma visão crítica, a leitura de uma seleção de trabalhos que abordam a música, a letra e a dança.
