It is considered how the social meaning of the domain exceeds its juridical definition, being related to public policies memories, to moral categories about different household access modalities (occupation or informal purchase), as well as the definition which emphasizes the appropriation of the domestic space. Different symbolic operations are described, being them related to the housing trajectory. A qualitative methodology was employed, implementing semi-structured interviews. El artículo analiza las representaciones sociales sobre el dominio de la vivienda de los habitantes de un barrio del Municipio de Quilmes, La Matera, fundado a partir de una ocupación de tierras en el año 2000. Se aborda cómo el sentido del dominio excede a su definición jurídica anclándolo en memorias sobre políticas públicas, en categorizaciones morales sobre las distintas formas de acceso a la vivienda (tomas o compras informales) así como en una definición que enfatiza el carácter propio del espacio doméstico. Se dan cuenta de diferentes operaciones simbólicas que significan al dominio según la trayectoria habitacional.
