Sumario:This study identified the Information Management Competencies (CMI) of  university students to enhance those skills in training programs. As a theoretical reference we took the standard proposed by the Association of College and Research Libraries. For data collection we used a questionnaire consisting of three parts. The first part is related to the perception of the students about their CMI, the second part has an exercise that requires to put into practice those skills and its result is a text production, and the third part is the reflection of the students on its performance in the exercise. The texts produced were part of the research data. In addition, semi-structured interviews were done to deepen in the process of information handling. Findings shows that participants have a low CMI level, so some guidelines to strengthen the promotion of that competency are provided and can be considered in other contexts.
