Both can be linked to the study of the intellectuals from a material perspective, in close connection with Book and Publishing studies. The Book is conceived here from two articulated variables: On one hand, as a commodity, and, on the other hand, according to its significance through the social space, which turns it into a symbolic good that carries the ideas that need to be materialized in books. In this way, we present, analyze and discuss the core history of these perspectives in order to establish a common line of work that can strengthen this field of study. El siguiente trabajo presenta dos perspectivas que se relacionan con el estudio sobre el Libro y la Edición en su relación con la cuestión de los intelectuales, tanto en la Argentina como en Francia. Por un lado, se presentan los principales aportes de la Historia Cultural y por el otro lado se incorpora la perspectiva sociológica. Ambas pueden vincularse al estudio de los intelectuales desde una perspectiva material, en estrecha relación con Estudios sobre el Libro y la Edición. Se concibe al libro desde dos variables articuladas: por un lado, como mercancía; por el otro, por su significación en el seno del espacio social, que lo convierte en un bien simbólico, portador de ideas que necesitan del objeto libro para materializarse y circular.
