El siguiente trabajo aborda el derrotero de la gente de Catriel y la relación con el gobierno argentino en la segunda mitad del siglo xix, especialmente entre 1878 y 1886, período en el cual sus líderes y parte de su gente fueron recluidos en la isla Martín García.A partir de documentación proveniente del Archivo General de la Armada (AGA) se intentan analizar los cambios y continuidades, en especial la (in)viabilidad del estatus de indios amigos conforme el Estado-Nación argentino se consolidaba, y si esas estrategias pudieron reproducirse en los espacios donde los catrieleros fueron detenidos, ya sea por decisión de los militares o de los propios indígenas, sin perder de vista el contexto de sometimiento y confinamiento impuesto a los aborígenes por parte del gobierno.
