The chorus invokes gods revered in both Athens and Thebes, and this hymn is linked to the context of the tragic ritual performance, as it would allow the audience as much as praise the gods and think about the proper relationship to be maintained with them. El objetivo del trabajo es analizar la párodos como un peán en honor a las divinidades que colaboraron con la victoria tebana. Pero este himno subvierte las normas del género, pues las imágenes empleadas evidencian que el coro creyendo celebrar un triunfo canta un peán apotropaico, sugiriendo que los peligros siguen acechando a la ciudad.
