In this context, the article presents the case of Ercilia Moreira de Cestac, a recently deceased descendant of Manuel Grande´s indigenous tribe. She devoted her life to preserve and reproduce ancestral knowledge and techniques concerning textile art. For this reason she was declared “living heritage person” of the city of Azul and “living cultural heritage” of the province of Buenos Aires. This paper aims to analyze and discuss the challenges that the “unique” character of her testimony presents to regional intangible heritage, as well as the complexity and richness of the social valuation processes involved. Las nuevas perspectivas teóricas en torno al patrimonio cultural han ampliado su alcance y han posibilitado revalorizar el patrimonio cultural intangible, así como las prácticas y conocimientos de las personas y los grupos involucrados en sus múltiples formas de expresión, considerándolos fuente de diversidad, identidad y creatividad. En este contexto, presentamos el caso de Ercilia Moreira de Cestac -descendiente de indígenas pampas recientemente fallecida- quien preservaba y reproducía saberes y técnicas ancestrales del arte textil. Dicha tejedora fue distinguida como “persona patrimonio vivo” a nivel municipal y “patrimonio cultural viviente” provincial, entre muchos otros reconocimientos. En el presente trabajo se analizan los desafíos que plantea su legado -testimonio de carácter “único” para la preservación del patrimonio intangible regional- así como la riqueza y complejidad de los procesos de valoración social involucrados. As novas perspectivas teóricas sobre o patrimônio cultural têm ampliado seu alcance e possibilitado a revalorização do patrimônio cultural intangível como fonte de diversidade, identidade e criatividade, assim como as práticas e conhecimentos das pessoas e dos grupos envolvidos. Neste contexto, apresentamos o caso de Ercilia Moreira de Cestac −descendente de indígenas pampeanos recentemente falecida−, quem preservava e reproducia saberes e técnicas ancestrais de arte têxtil. Esta tecedora foi distinguida como “pessoa patrimônio vivo” a nível municipal e “patrimônio cultural vivo” a nível provincial.
