The author starts from a position that does not consider the brevis in longo principle as justification for rejecting the study of the quantity of the last location of the verse, and discovers several phenomena that suggest that the poet had a marked preference for “rhythmic coherence” in his hexameter, which coexists with another for the contrast between the breaks of the third foot and the fourth.
