These authors are connected to the consolidation of the Afro-Brazilian studies in the field of the rising national anthropology. The aim of this work is to give density to the ideological debate about the value of the black culture in the formation of the national identity. Then it shows some difficulties and contradictions present in the work of these essay writers, who pretend to break with the preconcepts inherited from the positivism and in this way revalue the black world. Este artículo parte de considerar la gravitación problemática de la cultura negra en la obra de Gilberto Freyre,para analizar luego comparativamente una serie de ensayos producidos sobre el tema, entre las décadas de 1930 y 1960, por diversos intelectuales (Arthur Ramos, Roger Bastide y Edison Carneiro). Estos autores están vinculados a la consolidación de los estudios afro-brasileños en el campo de la incipiente antropología nacional. El objetivo del trabajo es darle densidad al debate ideológico en torno al valor de la cultura negra en la formación de la identidad nacional.
