El flourishing (florecimiento) es una teoría desarrollada por Keyes(2002). Florecer significa vivir dentro de un rango óptimo del funcionamiento humano, uno que connota la bondad, generatividad, el crecimiento y la capacidad de recuperación. Esta definición se basa en el trabajo pionero que mide la salud mental en términos positivos en lugar de por la ausencia de enfermedad mental (Keyes, Shmotkin, & Ryff, 2002).
