A discussion about the characteristics of these books and the possibilities that they constitute an information source for research in this field is proposed, analyzing what can be the contributions from the study of the cookbooks of a region or country to the history of reading. Based on the obtained results, a series of analysis categories that can be useful for similar studies are presented and justified, where the analysis units are documentary sources, contributing in this way to the construction of a new history of interdisciplinary reading, which includes the perspective of Information Science and Librarianship. Se presentan los primeros hallazgos de una investigación que procura analizar los manuales de cocina uruguaya en tanto fuente de información válida para la historia de la lectura y del libro. En este sentido se propone una discusión sobre las características de dichos manuales y las posibilidades de que los mismos constituyan una fuente de información para las investigaciones en este campo, analizando cuáles pueden ser los aportes desde el estudio de los manuales de cocina de una región o país a la historia de la lectura.
