The design of interventions oriented towards environmental conservation and/or “sustainable development” constitute an expression of this trend. Also, in the South American region, and in the north of Argentina for our particular case, the advance of productive frontiers has also been promoted by state investment in infrastructure. In particular, physical transport infrastructure is required for the “optimization” of the time-space relation and to reduce logistical costs. In this paper, I explore the case of Provincial Route No. 3 (Chaco Province), a development project of road infrastructure financed by the IBRD that has been promoted as an example of design and planning combining infrastructure oriented to productive development and environmental conservation.  En virtud de la relevancia que los conflictos territoriales y ambientales han adquirido en el marco del despliegue de actividades extractivas en ecosistemas considerados sensibles y socialmente vulnerables, esta problemática ha sido incorporada tanto en las agendas públicas globales, nacionales y provinciales a partir del diseño de intervenciones orientadas a la conservación ambiental y/o al “desarrollo sustentable”. Asimismo, tanto a nivel de la región sudamericana en general como en el norte de la Argentina para nuestro caso particular, el avance de frentes productivos se ha visto favorecido también por la inversión estatal en infraestructura. Particularmente, la infraestructura física de transporte es requerida para “optimización” del tiempo y de los costos que insume una distancia.
