Shortly before, a rich polemic had taken place between this author and Roy Hora on the characteristics of landowners and industrial entrepreneurs in agro-exporting Argentina in the pages of the journal Desarrollo Económico; this debate was initially precipitated by the publication of Hora's article "Landlords, industrial entrepreneurs and industrial growth in Argentina and the debate on protectionism (1890-1914)" (Desarrollo Económico, vol. 40, no. 159, October-December 2000). Schvarzer commented on the work in "Terratenientes, industriales y clase dominante en el ya antiguo debate sobre el desarrollo argentino" (Desarrollo Económico, vol. 41, no. 161, April-June 2001) and Hora responded to that comment in "Terratenientes, industriales y clase dominante en la Argentina: respuesta a una crítica" in the same issue of the journal. The text published here was written by a vehement Schvarzer, as soon as the ink of Hora's reply was dry, with the purpose of continuing that debate; however, he later discarded the idea and left it unfinished. His argument was that the "counter-response" would necessarily have to be very long, a format not suitable for publication in the "Notes and Comments" section of Desarrollo Económico, where the exchange had been taking place until then.
