This collection of short prose pieces does not remain oblivious to categories such as time, place, character construction, character’s motivation and story crafting in terms of verisimilitude, though it manipulates them in such a way that it evinces their fictional nature and thus disobeys the mimetic mandate of realist aesthetics. It is the narrative voice that makes room for destabilising movements but, in doing so, it places itself under close scrutiny. Consequently, the narrator of More Pricks than Kicks reveals its paradoxical status. El presente trabajo indaga la tarea artística de reelaboración que More Pricks than Kicks, de Samuel Beckett, realiza con las tradiciones narrativas heredadas del realismo del siglo XIX. Esta colección de prosas breves no soslaya categorías como el tiempo, el espacio, la construcción del personaje, la motivación de sus acciones y conductas, y la confección verosímil de la trama, pero las manipula de modo tal que deja en evidencia su naturaleza ficcional y rompe así con el mandato mimético de la estética realista decimonónica. Es la voz que narra la que permite desatar semejantes movimientos sísmicos pero, al hacerlo, también resulta objeto de interpelación.
