In the case of human beings, this syntaxis is analogous, not identical, to the relationship other higher beings establish with other bodies, such as the case of the gods that relate to the celestial bodies.  El artículo expone el modo en que Jámblico entiende el alma humana cuando se halla unida el cuerpo, sobre todo en los pasajes más relevantes de la Respuesta a Porfirio; se trata de una syntaxis, es decir, una relación de dos elementos heterogéneos que forman un solo viviente, y que se disponen jerárquicamente, de modo que uno de ellos, el alma, es superior al otro, el cuerpo.
