It also reflects on the value of the rhetoric of tribute in emerging Latin American literary field, the late nineteenth century.  Este artículo examina las relaciones singulares entre vida y obra tramadas en la biografía que el colombiano José María Vargas Vila escribe sobre Rubén Darío en 1917, a partir de la hipótesis de que la misma interroga los lazos entre biografía y autobiografía a través de una serie de temas centrales para la literatura moderna hispanoamericana: la figura del artista, la bohemia y el problema de la autonomía. Reflexiona, asimismo, sobre el valor de la retórica del homenaje en el incipiente campo literario hispanoamericano, el de fines del siglo XIX.  O artigo analisa as relações singulares entre vida e obra tecidas na biografia que, em 1917, o colombiano José María Vargas Vila escreve sobre Rubén Darío, a partir da hipótese que a mesma questiona os vínculos entre biografia e autobiografia através de uma serie de temas que são centrais para a literatura hispano-americana moderna: a figura do artista, a boemia e a problemática da autonomia.
