| Sumario: | This article analyses the 2015 edition of the Magnetic North Theatre Festival, as an example of the theatrical cultures in Canada. The main productions challenge the conventional forms of theatre: Needles and Opium by Robert Lepage, where the usual function played by the space in audience’s perception is transformed; What happened to the seeker? by Nadia Ross, which presents an original dramatic line and a variety of resources that challenge theatre’s conventional unity; Global Savages by the aboriginal Canadian company Debajehmujig, production built on a model which is different from the European model of theatre. This article also analyses the following productions: Re:Union, a production of political theatre; Up to Low, a production based on a local story, and Small stage Canada, an original cabaret production. All together, these productions present some of the most important tendencies and the different theatrical cultures of Canadian theatre today. |
