Sumario:This paper analyzes the exploratory stage and the technical advances applied in the search for oil in Mendoza between 1918 and 1943. Two historical moments between the Lencinist and conservative governments stand out. The results were very different due to the action of the State on the one hand and the management of YPF enterprise on the other. During the Lencinist administration there were attempts to promote the search for oil. Although there were a large number of requests for searches, practically no company moved on to the next stage of the value chain. During the 1930s, on the other hand, the state company applied state-of-the-art knowledge to search for oil in the Cuyo basins. Indeed, the work analyzes the different exploratory methods that YPF was using during the stage under study.
