I28-R145-2860_oai2025-02-11 RIEA, Documento 2021-12-16 The documents that we reproduce here, two complete columns published in 1938 and 1940 in La Tierra, newspaper of the Argentine Agrarian Federation, express the official perspective of the chacarera union on the presence and meaning of the latifundio in our country and in discussion with those who deny his existence. It is worth remembering that in those years, on the eve of the enactment of Colonization Law 12.636/40 and at times in which agrarian conflict intensified, the debate around land ownership intensified, adding to the expressions of those who “fight” the “Argentine latifundium” (this is how the FAA presents itself in one of the documents) the voices of the ruling elite concerned about the social order. The situation of the “exploited” settlers, the threats of eviction, the criticism of those who “benefit from the land without working it,” in addition to the few known references to the perspective of the “federated farmers” on the “aboriginal” issue, these are some of the topics addressed in these sources. The documents that we reproduce here, two complete columns published in 1938 and 1940 in La Tierra, newspaper of the Argentine Agrarian Federation, express the official perspective of the chacarera union on the presence and meaning of the latifundio in our country and in discussion with those who deny his existence.
