| Sumario: | The department of Alto Paraná (Paraguay), marked by the concentration and foreignization of land, has in peasant farming of Paraguayan origin a numerically expressive social group, which historically faced difficulties in accessing agrifood markets. In view of this, in 1997, the Central of Horticultural Producers Fairs of Alto Paraná, in Ciudad del Este, was created, being an important space for the sale of peasant production in the department. This article seeks to present this market, as well as highlight its relevance in a department with the characteristics of Alto Paraná. In methodological terms, in addition to a literature review and systematization of secondary data, visits were made to the Central, talking to different producers and consumers. Semi-structured interviews were also carried out with three farmers who were directors of the fair, in addition to a visit to two peasant communities that participate in this market. The results show that, over the years, the Central has been growing and serving a large number of farmers and consumers, offering a wide range of agricultural products typical of the department. Despite the challenges that must be overcome, it is an experience that has strengthened the permanence and development of peasant agriculture in Alto Paraná, something vital in a territory hostile to this social group. |
