The political context coincides with a prolific “independent” cinema centered around working class thematic. It is striking, however, as the films portray tells us little about the historical context in which they are immersed. This article, through the analysis of four iconic films of the time, tries to investigate the possible causes to explain this apparent contradiction.  Entre las décadas 1960 y 1980, en plena Guerra Fría, es destacable la relevancia de una clase obrera, en distintas partes del mundo occidental, que se alza por fuera del tutelaje de los partidos de izquierda y la dirigencia sindical, en búsqueda de mejores condiciones de vida. El contexto político coincide, a su vez, con un momento prolífico del cine “independiente” de temática obrera. Es llamativo, sin embargo, lo poco que nos dicen estos filmes acerca del contexto histórico en el que están inmersos.
