The key question is whether socioeconomic factors such as unemployment, poverty, and income distribution influence crime. This has implications for security policies and requires strategic planning. Additionally, the need for countercyclical policies to adapt to economic fluctuations is emphasized. If a causal relationship is proven, there could be a relaxation of controls during economic growth and increased efforts during recessions. Evaluating the performance of government actors in managing the economy and security is also essential. Ultimately, economic and social decisions must consider their impact on crime and violence to achieve acceptable levels of security. However, in Argentina, the lack of connection between academia and public policies has limited the evidence-based approach in this field.\nKeywords: crime; security; socioeconomic conditions; security policies; crime causal relationships; strategic planning.
