The summation of themes, partial objects of study, can not be considered as a superposition of oscillating concerns, but as part of an investigation of all contradictory that is expressed in the evolution of complex historical development. Los trabajos largamente citados de Pierre Vilar y base de prolíficas contribuciones a lo largo del siglo XX, desde su tesis doctoral sobre la Cataluña en la España Moderna, sus exquisitos aportes sobre la crisis del siglo XVII, hasta su breve pero significativa Historia de España, lo convierten en un autor cuyo abanico de problemáticas abordadas resulta no sólo de sus diversas preocupaciones, sino producto a la vez de su propio método.
