As specific examples, we analyze prices rates from the middle of the 13th century and some documentary references of susbistence crisis from the beginning of the 16th century. Questioning the usefulness of the concept of economic agent derivate of the orthodox theory it is concluded highlighting by contrast the difference between the logic of consumption feature of media producer and the logic of valorization that characterizes the sectors dedicated to speculative trade.  El trabajo se propone cuestionar la incidencia que normalmente se atribuye al movimiento de los precios como determinante de las opciones de producción del campesino. La historiografía afín a este postulado suele deducir del mismo el presunto impacto negativo de las tasas oficiales de precios, en tanto éstas habrían tenido el efecto de provocar una reducción de la producción y consiguientemente de la oferta de bienes. Como ejemplos concretos, se analizan las tasas de precios de mediados del siglo XIII y algunas referencias documentales de la crisis de subsistencia de principios del siglo XVI.
