To do this the article understands the institutionalization of policy evaluation as a specific process set within the more encompassing challenge of public management reform (paying particular attention to the teachings of administrative reforms, to the evaluation as a practice of management, and to comparative international experiences of institutionalization of policy evaluation); it carries out a diagnosis of the evaluation function in the Argentine state; identifies the conditions to strengthen the state capacities of policy evaluation and, finally, it arrives at conclusions and recommendations. El presente trabajo analiza la naturaleza del desafío estratégico que en la actualidad encara el Estado argentino en términos de la institucionalización de la evaluación de políticas.
