Sumario:This paper analyses the decisions taken by fiat regarding the tractor engine and truck plants which existed in the town of Sauce Viejo, Santa Fe province, between 1969 and 1980. Through a qualitative methodology and a corpus of different types of sources (business, journalistic, state and testimonial), it seeks to explain the reasons that led to the opening of the Santa Fe plants in 1969, the investments made there during the following years and the gradual closure of the enterprise from 1977 onwards, culminating in 1980 with a partial reconversion. In addition to the factors that led to fiat's establishment in Sauce Viejo, the text analyses the impact of the Argentine military government's economic measures on the direction taken by the company, arguing that these had direct consequences for the enterprise.
