We will study the reception in the context of late 19th Century Argentina and the productivity of its myth in the ideology of the time. We will consider as well the changes occurred in its passage from novel to drama. Also, we will approach the productivity that the gauchesca had in the early 20th Century, based on the analysis of the documentary resources found at the Biblioteca Criolla from Robert Lehmann-Nitsche’s legacy. En el presente artículo nos concentraremos en el estudio de una de las obras más importantes del género gauchesco: Juan Moreira, publicada como folletín por Eduardo Gutiérrez y luego representada como drama por José Podestá. Profundizaremos en la recepción que esta obra tuvo en la Argentina de fines del siglo XIX, la productividad de su mito en la ideología de la época a la vez que consideraremos los cambios que se establecen en el pasaje de novela a drama.
