Sumario:Taking into account the level of fragmentation (in organizational, territorial, financial and in rights terms) that the health care sector presents in Argentina, as well as the absence of adequate instances of coordination between institutions, the general objetive of the present study is the analysis of decentralized public health provision in this country. Special emphasis is placed on aspects related to federalism, trying to present the organization of public health provision as part of a larger and more fragmented system. In particular the paper analyses the different alternatives of public spending on health, its structure (according to different classifications), the resources used and other aspects that will be of interest to define the sector’s challenges in order to achieve a universal coverage, coordinated and solidary health system.
