Special emphasis is placed on aspects related to federalism, trying to present the organization of public health provision as part of a larger and more fragmented system. In particular the paper analyses the different alternatives of public spending on health, its structure (according to different classifications), the resources used and other aspects that will be of interest to define the sector’s challenges in order to achieve a universal coverage, coordinated and solidary health system. Tomando en consideración la fragmentación (organizacional, territorial, de financiamiento y, consecuentemente, de derechos) que presenta el sector de atención de la salud en Argentina, así como la ausencia de instancias adecuadas de coordinación entre instituciones, el presente estudio tiene por objeto general el análisis de la provisión pública descentralizada de salud. Se hace especial hincapié en los aspectos vinculados con el federalismo, intentando presentar la organización de la provisión pública de salud considerándola como parte de un sistema más amplio y fragmentado.
