One of these experiences is Community Theatre, a “theatre of the community, for the community” that appears in the 80s with the return of democracy. Since then, Community Theatre has expanded its practice throughout the city of Buenos Aires. This article analyzes, from an anthropological perspective, the “cultural performance” of one of these groups called Matemurga de Villa Crespo. It looks into the ways this group appropriates public space, the expressive and communicative resources used in their performances and the representations that the actors build. Thus, it also examines political dimensions in these artistic expressions. La ciudad de Buenos Aires alberga una rica historia de producción teatral en la que han surgido propuestas de teatro político y popular que se proponían intervenir de diversas formas en el espacio público. Una de estas experiencias es el teatro comunitario, un “teatro de la comunidad, para la comunidad”, nacido en la década de los años ochenta con la apertura democrática. Desde entonces, sus protagonistas continúan redefiniendo su práctica y desarrollándola en distintos barrios de la ciudad. En este artículo nos proponemos analizar desde una perspectiva antropológica una “actuación cultural” de un grupo de teatro comunitario de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, “Matemurga” de Villa Crespo. Nos interesa indagar en los usos y apropiaciones del espacio público, los recursos expresivos y comunicativos que se utilizan y los sentidos que sus protagonistas construyen. Así, abordaremos algunos aspectos que hacen a las dimensiones políticas de estas expresiones artísticas. Na história da produção teatral em Buenos Aires tem surgido diferentes propostas de teatro político e popular as quais desenvolveram formas de intervenção no espaço público. Uma dessas experiências é o Teatro Comunitário: um “teatro da comunidade, para a comunidade”, nascido na década de 1980, com a abertura democrática. Desde então, seus protagonistas continuam a redefinir e desenvolver a sua prática em diferentes bairros da cidade. Neste artigo analisamos, a partir de uma perspectiva antropológica, uma “performance cultural” de um grupo de teatro comunitário da cidade de Buenos Aires denominado Matemurga do bairro de Villa Crespo. Procuramos pesquisar os usos e apropriações do espaço público, os recursos expressivos e de comunicação utilizados e os juízos que seus protagonistas elaboram.
