The cemetery is a characteristic institution of the urban environment and are typical monuments that have been erected to keep the memory and deeds of loved ones who stay in them. Symbolically it is as a place where social memory expressed, protecting the history of the community and where visits to allow maintenance of the same historical story and the tragic events that have characterized the city. El eje en torno al cual gira este trabajo es el análisis de los mecanismos de mantenimiento y recuperación de la memoria social ante el hecho irremediable de la muerte. El cementerio es una institución característica del ámbito urbano donde se han erigido monumentos especiales para guardar la memoria y los hechos de los seres queridos allí alojados. Simbólicamente, se constituye como un lugar donde se expresa la memoria social, para resguardar la historia de la comunidad y donde las visitas permiten el mantenimiento del relato histórico de hechos luctuosos que han caracterizado a una ciudad determinada. O eixo em torno do qual gira a questão deste trabalho é a análise dos mecanismos de manutenção e recuperação da memória social antes do fato irremediável da morte. O cemitério é uma instituição característica das áreas urbanas onde monumentos especiais foram construídos para manter a memória e os atos de entes queridos que lá jazem.
