The aim is to show how, by means of a meticulous rethorical pursuit, Ponte´s essay breaks up the sanctifying discourse surrounding the hero. The author condemns the political use of Martí´s image as well as the use of his name as an instrument of ideological authorization. The analysis gives special emphasis to certain discursive strategies that reproduce the “falling” process of the monumentalized myth (martiano-revolutionary) at a metaphorical level by attacking the semantic field of “airy” as being representative of a hidden and totalizing metaphysics. El objetivo del artículo es analizar las estrategias polémicas del ensayo “El abrigo de aire” de Antonio José Ponte sobre la figura del héroe nacional cubano José Martí. Se intenta mostrar que el ensayo de Ponte desarticula mediante un minucioso trabajo retórico el discurso sacralizador del héroe, denunciando el uso político de la imagen martiana y el funcionamiento de su nombre como instrumento de autorización ideológica. El análisis se detiene especialmente en el estudio de algunas estrategias discursivas que reproducen a nivel metafórico el proceso de “caída” del mito monumentalizado (martiano-revolucionario), atacando el campo semántico de lo “aéreo” como figura de una metafísica oculta y totalizante. O objetivo do artigo é analisar as estratégias polêmicas do ensaio “O abrigo de ar”, de Antonio José Ponte, sobre a figura do herói nacional cubano José Martí. O intuito é monstrar que o ensaio de Ponte desarticula o discurso sacralizador do herói, a través dum minucioso trabalho retórico, denunciando o uso político da imagem martiana e o funcionamento do seu nome como instrumento de autorização ideológica.
