The aim of this paper is to study the opportunities and threats posed by the transition to electric vehicles for the automotive industry in Argentina. The main results show that Argentina could take advantage of its greater relative availability of qualified human resources in chemistry and its large lithium reserves to catapult the production of batteries for electric vehicles. This transition would also be an opportunity for Argentina to reposition itself in the regional automotive value chains (given the delay that the promotion of electromobility has shown in Brazil); and its growing specialization in pick-up trucks could position it in the emerging market of electric pick-up trucks, which still did not developed any large, consolidated players. Impulsado por regulaciones específicas, el sector automotriz se encuentra en una transición desde los vehículos con motor de combustión interna hacia los vehículos eléctricos. Este contexto abre ventanas de oportunidad para el reposicionamiento de empresas y países. El objetivo del presente trabajo es estudiar las oportunidades y amenazas que supone la transición a vehículos eléctricos para la cadena automotriz en la Argentina. Los principales resultados demuestran que la Argentina podría aprovechar su mayor disponibilidad relativa de recursos humanos calificados en química y sus cuantiosas reservas de litio para catapultar la producción de baterías para vehículos eléctricos.
