| Sumario: | The objective of this article is to analyze the restructuring that took place in the sugar mills of the province of Salta in the 1990s. During those years these companies, despite state aid, declared bankruptcy and were subsequently put up for sale. However, the owners of the firms benefited from these transactions, since previously the state took over their liabilities. Our approach is that these restructurings were part of a business strategy carried out by their owners that allowed them to make a profit by using their companies as assets for speculation.
