| Sumario: | The aim of this paper is to discuss the scope and limits that ecclesiastical archives have for the study of Leon medieval nobility. By focusing on the diplomatic documents gathered at the Cathedral of León and the monasteries of Sahagún and Santa Maria de Otero de las Dueñas, three major documentary collections in the region, the article will examine some issues related to the production of nobility documents, as well as their later integration into ecclesiastical archives, considering the methodological problems these processes pose to scholars. Furthermore, some possibilities offered by ecclesiastical documents for the study of medieval nobility will be identified, and the main lines of research this documental corpus has enabled will be highlighted. |
