This branch of the chemical industry produces, packages, distributes and markets gases such as oxygen, argon, nitrogen, air, helium, acetylene, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, etc. This industry has strategic importance as it supplies other industrial branches (oil, steel, metallurgy, refrigeration, food, soft drinks, construction) as well as hospitals and clinics (medical gases). Since the 1990s, this subsector is in the process of centralizing capital and changing the way it is produced and distributed. In this paper we analyze the characteristics of the chemical and petrochemical industry in general in Argentina and the implications of the process of centralization, internationalization, monopoly and change in the form of production and distribution of the industrial gases industry at a global and national level.
