I28-R145-1701_oai2025-02-10 Pegoraro, Victor Nahuel 2020-06-01 Nicolás Dazeo was the most important builder businessman of Mar del Plata during the twentieth century, concentrating for decades a great portion of the private and public works in the area. His performance as a businessman shows an individual course of quick growth and social promotion, in a historical context of strong dynamism of the tourist demand for lodging in the most important seaside resort of Argentina. A virtuous cycle that lasted somewhat longer than thirty years, consolidated several fortunes of family enterprises of the construction field. Dazeo became, for years, a market leader, integrating a corporation. The following generation could not continue with this success, breaking the company in the nineties, already in a recessive context. The aim of the article is to analyze a key case in order to understand the strategies of family enterprises in the construction field, a particular industry we know very little about. At the same time, it allows us to think about the logic of action and growth possibilities of small and medium businesses in the long term. In a very unstable Argentine economy with real uncertainty and a great variability of rules in any activity, it is precisely the performance of Nicolás Dazeo SA, from the mid-forties through the nineties, in the last century, that provides elements to rethink history of family capitalism in our country ARK: http://id.caicyt.gov.ar/ark:/s25458299/5h6xeu3bl Nicolás Dazeo fue el empresario constructor más importante de la ciudad de Mar del Plata en el siglo XX, concentrando durante décadas gran parte de la obra privada y pública de la zona.
