Then, a binary choice model is estimated to detect the factors associated with the probability of having a future aspiration in such careers. The results show that men and students who attend public schools have a lower probability of developing an interest in the pursuit of a math career; whereas students with high intrinsic and instrumental motivation to learn mathematics and a high self-concept in that area have a higher probability of pursuing a math career. Additionally, math related anxiety has a negative relationship with the probability of pursuing those careers. En base a los datos de PISA para Argentina, el trabajo analiza las características de los estudiantes secundarios de 15 años que tienen interés en estudiar carreras universitarias en matemática. En primer lugar, se analizan las características individuales, familiares, escolares y de contexto de esos estudiantes. Luego, se estima un modelo de elección binaria para detectar los factores asociados con la probabilidad de tener en estudiar carreras universitarias en matemática. Los resultados muestran que los hombres y estudiantes que asisten a escuelas públicas tienen una probabilidad menor de tener un interés en seguir una carrera en matemáticas; mientras que los alumnos con alta motivación intrínseca e instrumental para aprender matemáticas y con un alto autoconcepto en esa área tienen una mayor probabilidad de seguir una carrera en matemáticas.
