The analysis approach goes beyond the volume of borrowed capital and emphasizes how resources were directed to manufacturing companies. In this sense, the article states that the contribution of this bank to industrial development was limited, due to the lack of a credit strategy coherent with promoting a deeper industrial diversification in the country. On the contrary, it behaved very close to commercial banking, assuming a subsidiary role for traditionally established industries and, therefore, moving away from its role of promotion.
