Firstly, to contextualize the topic, the international landscape is briefly analyzed, highlighting the contributions of prominent educational and library organizations that issue recommendations that, although not mandatory, establish fundamental principles and general guidelines to inform the formulation of regulatory and legal frameworks. Next, the focus shifts to the Spanish national context, encompassing educational legislation with implications for the library sector, as well as regional legislation that includes regulations pertaining to both libraries and education. To prepare this study, a search for, identification of, and review of relevant legislation were conducted to ascertain the existing regulations. The analysis reveals, it is evident that school libraries and the professional profile of the school librarian hold limited prominence in state and regional legislation in Spain. Furthermore, regulations pertaining to school libraries are primarily derived from the educational rather than the library sphere. There are international recommendations on the professional profile of the school librarian, but they remain non-binding, serving only as guidelines to provide support and direction to the library community. ARK CAICYT: http://id.caicyt.gov.ar/ark:/s18511740/d59aiu0sq   En este artículo se exploran los diversos marcos normativos y recomendaciones referentes a la función del bibliotecario escolar, abordando distintos ámbitos. Primeramente, para contextualizar el tema, se analiza brevemente el ámbito internacional, donde importantes organizaciones educativas y bibliotecarias emiten sugerencias que, aunque no son de obligado cumplimiento, establecen principios fundamentales y directrices generales para orientar la formulación de marcos normativos y legales. Posteriormente se aborda el ámbito estatal español, que engloba la legislación educativa con implicaciones en el ámbito bibliotecario, así como la legislación autonómica, que contempla normativas relacionadas tanto con las bibliotecas como con la educación. Para la elaboración de este estudio se ha realizado una búsqueda, identificación y localización de legislación para conocer las regulaciones existentes. A través de la información analizada, se evidencia que las bibliotecas escolares y el perfil profesional del bibliotecario escolar no gozan de gran relevancia en la legislación estatal y autonómica en España. Además, la normativa que aborda las bibliotecas escolares proviene principalmente del ámbito educativo en lugar del bibliotecario. Se encuentran recomendaciones internacionales sobre el perfil profesional del bibliotecario escolar, pero no son vinculantes, ya que se trata simplemente de directrices destinadas a ofrecer apoyo y orientación a la comunidad bibliotecaria.
