description	The current ecological crisis calls for considering solutions that reverse or at least mitigate successive human actions that worsen the environmental and climatic situation. One such solution can be found in the substitution of products or goods that produce pollution, such as plastic objects. For some decades now, actors in the scientific-industrial field have been engaged in the search for such alternatives and are in the process of research and development of the so-called bioplastics, materials derived from biomass, of rapid environmental degradation and similar in their physical-chemical and mechanical properties to plastics of synthetic origin and slow degradation. As a result of field work carried out in a socio-technical network formed by a university laboratory and another lab from a cassava starch producing cooperative, in this paper we will contextualize the recent history of the development of bioplastics in Argentina, from a perspective that focuses on techniques and material developments from a processual and non-essentialist point of view. We try to demonstrate that techno-scientific practices and activities in formal spaces such as laboratories can be considered in themselves ecological phenomena, composed of certain interactions between humans and non-humans rooted in different traditions of knowledge.

La actual crisis ecológica llama a considerar soluciones que reviertan o al menos mitiguen sucesivas acciones humanas que empeoran la situación ambiental y climática. Una de tales soluciones puede encontrarse en la sustitución de productos o mercancías que produzcan contaminación, como los objetos plásticos. Desde hace algunas décadas, actores del campo científico-industrial, arrojados a la búsqueda de tales alternativas, se encuentran en proceso de investigación y desarrollo de los llamados bioplásticos, materiales derivados de la biomasa, de rápida degradación ambiental y que asemejan en sus propiedades físico-químicas y mecánicas a los plásticos de origen sintético y lenta degradación. A raíz de un trabajo de campo realizado en una red socio-técnica conformada por un laboratorio universitario y otro perteneciente a una cooperativa productora de almidón de mandioca, en este trabajo contextualizaremos la reciente historia del desarrollo de bioplásticos en Argentina, desde una perspectiva que pone el foco en las técnicas y los devenires materiales desde un punto de vista procesual y no esencialista. Intentaremos demostrar que las prácticas y actividades tecno-científicas en espacios formales como los laboratorios, pueden ser consideradas en sí mismas fenómenos ecológicos, compuestos por determinadas interacciones entre humanos y no-humanos arraigadas en distintas tradiciones de conocimiento. A atual crise ecológica exige a consideração de soluções que revertam ou, pelo menos, atenuem as sucessivas ações humanas que pioram a situação ambiental e climática. Uma dessas soluções pode ser encontrada na substituição de produtos ou bens que produzem poluição, como objetos de plástico. Há várias décadas, os atores do campo científico-industrial têm se empenhado na busca dessas alternativas e estão em processo de pesquisa e desenvolvimento dos chamados bioplásticos, materiais derivados da biomassa, que se degradam rapidamente no meio ambiente e cujas propriedades físico-químicas e mecânicas são semelhantes às dos plásticos de origem sintética e de degradação lenta. Como resultado do trabalho de campo realizado em uma rede sociotécnica formada por um laboratório universitário e outro pertencente a uma cooperativa produtora de amido de mandioca, contextualizaremos a história recente do desenvolvimento de bioplásticos na Argentina, a partir de uma perspectiva que enfoca técnicas e desenvolvimentos de materiais de um ponto de vista processual e não esencialista.
