The performance alternates Yiddish folk songs, dances and religious songs with little stories in the form of joke or Yiddish aphorism called witz. The cast is formed by very few actors/musicians accompanying Moni Ovadia, who uses the art of storytelling and the style of the café-concert, continuously passing from the spoken word to the singing. In this paper we will focus on the procedures used by Ovadia to make the yiddishkeit –the spirit of Yiddish culture– appear on stage.
