First, the period from the 1880s when both city and provincial police were separated up to the 1920s is studied. Then, the institutional evolution of this Law Enforcement Agency is divided in three stages: 1) the 1930s when significant changes began to taking place, 2) the military coup of 1943 and the following Peronist period, when a deep administrative police reform happened. And 3) the years of the Revolución Libertadora from 1955 on, analyzed in this article as a conclusion. The entire piece refers to the transition from a brava (1930s) to a dura (1960s) police agency that issued its own institutional goals in concurrence with the political and military governments during those decades. Este artículo analiza la transformación institucional de la policía de la provincia de Buenos Aires durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. Se estudia primero la etapa que va desde la separación con la policía de la Capital (década de 1880) hasta finales de los años veinte, durante la cual circula un repertorio de medidas reformistas de la policía que serviría de base para la época siguiente. Luego, se divide la transformación policial bonaerense en tres etapas: 1) la década del treinta, donde se ponen las bases para importantes cambios de la agencia policial; 2) la revolución de junio de 1943 más el período peronista, en el cual se llevó a cabo una profunda reestructuración policial; y 3) el período de la revolución libertadora, tratado en este trabajo a modo de conclusión. En conjunto, el artículo plantea el tránsito de una policía brava a una dura , que formuló sus propios objetivos institucionales dentro de un esquema de alineamiento con el poder político-militar de entonces. Este artigo analisa a transformação institucional da polícia da província de Buenos Aires durante a primeira metade do século XX. Estuda-se primeiramente a etapa que vai da separação da Polícia da Capital (década de 1880) até o final dos anos vinte, durante a qual circula um repertório de medidas reformistas da polícia que serviria de base para a época seguinte. Logo, se divide a transformação policial bonaerense em três etapas: 1) a década de trinta, quando se fixam as bases para importantes mudanças da agência policial; 2) a revolução de junho de 1943 mais o período peronista, no qual se realizou uma profunda reestruturação policial; e 3) o período da revolução libertadora, tratado neste trabalho como forma de conclusão.
