Technological advances in digital photogrammetry, with the possibility of creating three-dimensional models, have become an important tool to study the archaeological record. In this paper, we present the results of using digital photogrammetry as an auxiliary tool to diagnose the conservation status of the stone monuments from the archaeological site of Izapa. The site is a settlement of the first order in the Soconusco region (Chiapas, México) and has the largest sculptural record representative of the “Izapa style”. This sculptural style was an important piece in the development of the elites’ legitimation discourse from the Late Preclassic period (300 BC-250 A.D.) in southeastern Mesoamerica. El diagnóstico del estado en el que se encuentran los monumentos arqueológicos es una tarea fundamental para emprender cualquier acción de conservación. Esto requiere implementar métodos de registro adecuados y precisos para poder identificar las afectaciones presentes en los monumentos, así como los factores de deterioro que los generan. En este sentido, los avances tecnológicos de la fotogrametría digital, con la posibilidad de generar modelos tridimensionales, se han convertido en una herramienta importante para estudiar el registro arqueológico. En el presente trabajo se presentan los resultados obtenidos de la aplicación de la fotogrametría digital como herramienta auxiliar para diagnosticar el estado de conservación de los monumentos pétreos del sitio arqueológico de Izapa.
