description This article studies the dynamics of vulnerability in democracy in the context of a new order, the algorithmic digital order, and seeks to find out how education can help mitigate this phenomenon. The article, presenting new conceptualizations and using interpretative analysis to achieve its purposes, characterizes the algorithmic digital order in which the most advanced societies in digitalization and algorithmization are located and, within this framework, develops an inquiry into the possible role of social media platforms in making structural elements of democracy vulnerable, based on recent research on the matter. This investigation attests that digital social networks effectively threaten democracy in some dimensions, leading us to ask whether this is an inevitability or whether we can respond to it by resorting to education, considering primarily the education of young age groups who attend schools. The article's line of argument concludes in this regard that actually existing democracies, consolidated and emerging, are not condemned to wither under the pressure of this vulnerability and that education, through stimulation of democratic care, can help contain this phenomenon.

Este artículo estudia las dinámicas de vulneración de la democracia en el contexto de un nuevo orden, el orden digital algorítmico, y trata de averiguar cómo la educación puede ayudar a mitigar este fenómeno. El artículo, presentando nuevas conceptualizaciones y utilizando análisis interpretativos para lograr sus propósitos, caracteriza el orden digital algorítmico en el que se ubican las sociedades más avanzadas en digitalización y algoritmización y, en ese marco, desarrolla una indagación sobre el posible papel de las plataformas de redes sociales en la vulneración de elementos estructurales de la democracia, basado en investigaciones recientes sobre el tema. Esa indagación confirma que las redes sociales digitales amenazan efectivamente la democracia en algunas de sus dimensiones, lo que nos lleva a preguntarnos si esto es inevitable o si podemos responder a ello recurriendo a la educación, considerando en primer lugar la educación de los jóvenes que asisten a la escuela. La línea argumental del artículo concluye que las democracias realmente existentes, consolidadas y emergentes, no están condenadas a debilitarse bajo la presión de la vulneración digital y que la educación, mediante la promoción de un care democrático, puede ayudar a contener este fenómeno. Este artigo estuda as dinâmicas de vulnerabilização da democracia no contexto de uma nova ordem, a ordem digital algorítmica, e procura averiguar de que modo é que a educação pode ajudar a mitigar esse fenómeno. O artigo, apresentando novas conceitualizações e servindo-se da análise interpretativa para atingir os seus propósitos, faz a caracterização da ordem digital algorítmica na qual se situam as sociedades mais avançadas em digitalização e em algoritmização e, nesse quadro, desenvolve uma inquirição ao eventual papel das plataformas de redes sociais na vulnerabilização de elementos estruturantes da democracia, apoiando-se em investigações recentes sobre a matéria. Essa investigação atesta que as redes sociais digitais ameaçam efetivamente a democracia em algumas dimensões, levando a perguntar se isso é uma inevitabilidade ou se lhe podemos responder recorrendo à educação, considerando antes de mais a educação das faixas etárias jovens que frequentam as escolas.
