In practice, conflicts between two or more Jesuit reductions were recorded in order to claim property over poorly defined territories or important subsistence and commercial products of the time, such as heads of cattle. Ánalyzed in this way, and however unusual the outcomes may have been, the episodes of litigationallow us to roughly measure certain regional characteristics, oppositions and defenses of local identities. In short, they reveal an incessant effort on the part of the Society of Jesus to interfere in the ancestral memory of the original peoples in order to “adjust” them according to the measures that the missionaries considered recognizable or necessary. Este artículo contextualiza la provincia del Paraguay entre los siglos XVII y XVIII, tomando como principal consideración las narrativas históricas que, por alguna razón, señalan situaciones de conflicto entre reducciones jesuíticas. En la práctica, indisposiciones formales entre dos o más reducciones para reclamar títulos de propiedad o revisiones sobre territorios mal definidos o principal producto de subsistencia y comercio de la época: la ganadería. Expuestos de esta manera, y por inusuales que hayan sido los resultados, los episodios de litigios nos permiten medir a grandes rasgos ciertas características regionales, oposiciones y defensas de las identidades locales. A partir de entonces, las situaciones empiezan a revelar un incesante esfuerzo por parte de la Compañía de Jesús por inmiscuirse en la memoria ancestral de aquellas comunidades con el fin de “ajustarlas” según las medidas marcadas que los religiosos consideraban necesarias u oportunas. Este artigo contextualiza a província do Paraguai entre os séculos XVII e XVIII tendo como considerações principais narrativas históricas que, por alguma circunstância, indiquem situações de conflito pueblerino como indisposições entre reduções jesuíticas de modo a reivindicar títulos de terras, revisões sobre territórios mal definidos ou por cabeças de gado. Expostos dessa maneira, e por mais inusitados que tenham sido os desfechos, os episódios de litígios nos permitem conhecer melhor certas características regionais, oposições e defesas de identidades locais.
