Through the practices and representations of the missionaries of the Compañía de Jesús, I analyse the social cosntruction of gender difference, since the power and general functions the chaqueñas had (politically, economically and ritually speaking) before evangelization, was reduced to a subordinate historic role. Este trabajo trata del impacto causado por la evangelización jesuítica entre las indígenas de los diversos grupos del Chaco, reducidos en sus fronteras en el s. XVIII, al imponerse un nuevo orden patriarcal con las misiones. A través de las prácticas y representaciones de los misioneros de la Compañía analizo el impacto que ejerció la construcción social de la diferencia de género dado que el poder y las funciones relevantes que desarrollaban las chaqueñas (papel político, económico y ceremonial) antes de la evangelización, quedó reducido a un rol histórico subordinado. Este trabalho aborda o impacto da evangelização jesuíta entre as mulheres indígenas dos diversos grupos da região do Chaco, que foram reduzidas às suas fronteiras no século XVIII, quando uma nova ordem patriarcal foi imposta por meio das missões.
