Based on this work, the article first describes the meaning and grammatical function of the general Spanish use of nomás, which is common to all Argentine varieties. Regarding the Río de la Plata usages, a first stage (toward the end of 18th century) is distinguished, in which nomás carries a mitigating value when combined with deictic terms (ahí nomás) and imperative verb forms (entre nomás). In a second stage (probably in the early 20th century), new uses emerge: nomás intensifies the meaning of the particle meta (¡Meta nomás!, cf. Pacheco, La ribera, 1910) or makes reference to a previous —not necessarily explicit— speech act (¿Le sigue doliendo, nomás?, cf., Sánchez, Barranca abajo, 1905). In this way, by focusing on the successive processes of grammaticalization of nomás, which represent an instance of intersubjectification (Traugott, 2003), we hope to contribute to the grammatical study of Argentine varieties of Spanish. Este artículo pretende homenajear a Berta Vidal de Battini recuperando una de sus observaciones lingüísticas en El español de la Argentina, en la que identifica a nomás (no más) como un adverbio que presenta usos propios, en particular en la variedad rioplatense. Partiendo de esa obra, en primer lugar caracterizamos el significado y la función gramatical del uso general de nomás, que en la Argentina se comparte. En cuanto a los usos rioplatenses, distinguimos una primera etapa (tentativamente a finales del siglo XVIII), en la que nomás presenta valor atenuador cuando se combina con palabras de naturaleza deíctica (ahí nomás) y con formas verbales en imperativo (entre nomás). En una segunda etapa (tentativamente a principios del siglo XX) surgen nuevos usos rioplatenses, en los que nomás intensifica el significado de la partícula meta (¡Meta nomás!, cfr. Pacheco, La ribera, 1910) o hace referencia a un acto enunciativo previo no necesariamente identificado (¿Le sigue doliendo, nomás?, cfr. Sánchez, Barranca abajo, 1905).
